GSK is a science-led global healthcare company that researches and develops a broad range of innovative products with the purpose of helping people do more, feel better, live longer.

The GSK IMPACT Awards are GSK’s flagship charitable programme in the UK and one of the pillars of the GSK brand.

Run in partnership with leading independent healthcare charity The King’s Fund, they reward community-based health and wellbeing charities that are making a real difference to people’s lives.

The Toucan team has been producing the films, ceremony, event, speeches and other promotional/printed content since 2011.

When the Toucan team were invited to pitch, the GSK IMPACT Awards had been running since 1997 and, although they had developed considerably over that time, GSK and their partner The King’s Fund were clear that they wanted to improve and enhance every aspect and take it to the next level.

Previous award films had lacked emotion and engaging content. The Toucan team took the time to learn and understand the individuality of each of the winning charities and the personalities within them, to determine how best to tell their stories.

The relationships our team develops generate a deep level of trust and intimacy with each charity and its service users. It is important that we tell their stories with intelligence and compassion and that they can trust us to look after them and their service users. The films we create not only reflect the quality of the services, but get to the heart and personality of each winning organisation and ensures it is a useful resource for them going forward.

In addition, we raised the bar in terms of the technical aspect of each film; improving sound, visuals, editing and post-production to bring a more cinematic quality and experience to the films to better convey the winning charities incredible stories. The films are screened on the IMAX screen at the Science Museum where the Award Ceremony is held.

Photography is a key element to capturing the essence of the award winners.  It is used by both GSK and The King’s Fund press teams, as well as across all promotional materials for the awards; brochures, banners etc., and by the charities moving forward as they receive all of their photographs as part of their award prize.

Our photographer helps to convey the emotions, relationships, stories and people of each of the winning charities with discretion and sensitivity.

Toucan produces the entire awards ceremony, from writing the programme and ceremony content, to the speeches for the GSK Director and GSK Chairman, Sir Philip Hampton.

Utilising the Toucan team’s background in the performing arts; the whole event format was redesigned to improve the quality of the staging, lighting design and flow of the evening. From the moment you walk through the door, your experience of GSK IMPACT begins.

As well as writing the speeches, Toucan also delivers speaker training for the GSK Director and undertakes rapport skills training for the 25 Industrial Placement students from GSK, who volunteer at the awards.

The Toucan team writes the content for the Awards night programme and the individual charity brochures produced as part of the winners’ package.  Our team also works with the GSK in-house design team on their development and production.

Toucan is proud of their association with GSK and, as a result of our work on the GSK IMPACT Awards, was appointed a Preferred Supplier to GSK in 2016.  Our team has has since produced films for their CEO’s conference working with the Global brand team, as well as GSK pharma.

Our involvement with the GSK IMPACT Awards has seen them develop and grow considerably since 2011 to become GSK’s leading UK charitable programme and be elevated to one of the key pillars of the GSK brand.  The awards are highly respected in the Third Sector and have also expanded into Ireland.

Toucan has been an integral part of the GSK IMPACT Awards programme since 2011 and have played a key role in the development of the scheme. They produce empathic, moving and engaging films that connect with audiences, taking pride in rising to challenges, even when the subject matter could be controversial or sensitive. Their approach is always warm, friendly, inclusive and professional, with an attention to detail which is second to none. I would have no hesitation in recommending Toucan to other potential partners and am delighted that they are now a preferred supplier for GSK.

UK and Ireland Charitable Partnerships, GSK

We have been very impressed by the quality of the films, commitment to the work, ability to work with very sensitive issues and the way they have worked with us to really understand the brief.
